I am a Learning Designer and Educator with a background in the geosciences—geology, maps, and geography. I currently work at the River Restoration Centre, based at Cranfield University, where I have developed and expanded their portfolio of online courses.
My career began as an earth scientist and hydrogeologist in sub-Saharan Africa, where I worked on water supply projects for communities and refugees in Tanzania. Returning to the UK, I taught Geology at the University of Sunderland before moving into Technology Enhanced Learning (TEL). Over the years, I have worked with a range of universities and institutions, including the USGS Hawaiian Volcano Observatory and the University of Southampton, where I served as outreach officer in the School of Geography.
In recent years, I have become actively involved with the Playful Learning community, focusing on how physical and embodied approaches can enrich adult education. At their most recent annual conference, I led a workshop on physical learning in geology.
I am now writing a book on Deep Time—a subject that has fascinated me for many years and shaped much of my non-fiction reading.
Beyond my professional life, I’m a father, swimmer and mountain biker.
